Shaunitra Wisdom, academic advisor for the Georgia Tech School of Architecture, was recognized as the 2021 Staff Award Winner at the Diversity Champion Awards. The ceremony took place during the 13th annual Diversity Symposium, held yearly by Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

The Diversity Champion Awards recognize members of the faculty, staff, and student body, and a unit (office, department, school, or lab) who are advancing the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Georgia Tech community.

As staff representative for the College of Design’s Diversity and Inclusion Council, Wisdom co-developed and hosted a College-wide staff discussion on race, privilege, and discrimination, with an open forum to develop strategies for addressing racial and other biases in the College.

As part of the School of Architecture’s Equity, Justice, and Inclusion Task Force, she created and coordinated the School’s Spring Black Alumni Panel, and worked with other council members to help the School identify opportunities to build, promote, and sustain an inclusive, equitable culture.

"Nitra's unflagging commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion is clearly evidenced in the many roles she plays as a colleague, mentor, friend, and advisor," said Julie Kim, co-chair for the School of Architecture.

"I am so pleased to see the Institute recognize Nitra as one of the 2021 Diversity Champions. We are lucky to have her at Tech in the College of Design."
