Biography

William Reynolds is a versatile designer and skilled fabricator whose approach is deeply rooted in the interplay between design and fabrication. Growing up on a farm, he learned early how to build, plan, and repurpose materials, laying the foundation for his interest in architecture. This practical understanding of the physical world forms the basis of his work, which evolves through a continuous feedback loop of material experimentation and digital refinement.

William's practice is characterized by a curiosity to explore material properties and processes. He believes that the first step towards innovation is to think materials first, using their properties to influence design, reduce waste, and improve performance. This hands-on, analog approach is balanced by his commitment to learning, teaching, and implementing digital fabrication methods.

In his work, the digital model serves as the meeting ground of idea and geometry. This iterative process allows him to refine designs to be as accurate as possible, align processes of digital and analog fabrication, and ensure that the final product meets expectations in appearance, assembly, and performance.

William holds a Master of Architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology and a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His diverse experiences, including roles at MASS Design Group and founding BEST Studio + Workshop, have afforded him a multidisciplinary perspective.
