Annie (Yining) Chen
Candidate in 3.5-year Master of Architecture degree program
Favorite thing about being at Georgia Tech: I have not physically been on the beautiful Atlanta campus of Georgia Tech since this semester I decided to take all courses remotely back in my home country China. I am looking forward to the warm sunshine, the large open space of Hinman, and a creative atmosphere with my fellows. For this semester, although all courses are remotely delivered and there are a lot of challenges to overcome, I am impressed by the high-quality education I received from all professors; and I appreciate considerate arrangements for all students who live in different time zones.
Who do you want to design for? Last year, I started to research and renovate Shikumen—an antique stone house— and there are narrow alleyways in between each house. My grandparents used to live there, and a lot of seniors are still inhabitants nowadays. From this project, I really hope my future design could promote the daily life of people in this society. Additionally, with creative forms and colors, I hope my design could be unique and tempting in a city.
What do you do for fun? Listen to music, watch movies, play the piano, travel.
One word to describe what you thought before you started: Butterflies
One word to describe what you think now: Hopeful
