Chris Simon joined the School of Architecture faculty at Georgia Tech as an Academic Professional in 2022. He serves as the Director of the Digital Fabrication Laboratory (DFL) for the College of Design and teaches senior design studios, elective courses on materials and fabrication, introduction to digital fabrication, and advanced digital fabrication and robotics. His research interests include robotically assisted additive and subtractive fabrication, mixed reality design and fabrication, and the intersection of those technologies with fine art and the built environment.

Having worked in a variety of roles within the design field, he is skilled in design, design development, and construction at many scales. As an Architectural Designer at award-winning firms including Trahan Architects (NO, LA), Bercy Chen Studio (Austin, TX), and Michael Hsu Office of Architecture (Austin, TX), he contributed to sports venues, ecclesiastical projects, campus master plans, single-family residential designs, hospitality projects, bespoke furniture, and international design competitions. On the construction side, he spent four years as Senior Project Manager for a high-end architectural metal fabricating company in Austin, TX before launching a product design and manufacturing company that he operated for three years. 

He has taught architectural design studios and professional elective courses focused on digital fabrication in the Louisiana State University (LSU) BArch and MArch programs and cross-disciplinary courses in the LSU School of Art. His graduate-level work includes time as a research assistant, lab administrator, teaching assistant, and design shop supervisor. In his early career, he worked for several years as a blacksmith and artistic fabricator. He continues to produce custom furniture, sculpture, and product prototypes for select clients.
