Biography

With almost a decade of professional experience in Healthcare architecture, Elpida Peponi has worked on Children’s Hospitals, Cancer Clinics, and Medical Office Buildings spanning from Utah to Florida and the Virgin Islands. She has experience on all project phases and enjoys seeing the evolution from conceptual design to completion. Elpida started her career at Stanley Beaman and Sears, where Healthcare facilities were considered a pillar of our society and design was approached with sensitivity and human centric goals.

Through her involvement in business development efforts, she has grown an interest in storytelling and graphic representation. Elpida is intrigued by the designer’s role in shaping a project’s vision and the impact image aided narratives have in collaborative discussions with clients.

Teaching Interest:

Good architecture is a balance between the vision for a building and being able to get that vision realized. Only focusing on the poetics, theory and idealism often leads to being unprepared in the field. On the opposite side of the spectrum, only knowing how to get something built leads to noring architecture. When the students learn earlier on in their studies how to balance poetics with real constraints equips them with the ability to preserve design intent in the professional environment and design buildings that work both for the clients and society as a whole.

Research Interest:

I am a full time professional architect and have not yet formalized research on any topics. My areas of interest are he importance of visualization and story telling as tools to convince clients of the design vision.
